Great Exchange Framed Wall Art
We bring the rags. Christ gives us His righteousness.
Great Exchange portrays Christ receiving the torn garments of kneeling sinners while those around Him stand clothed in clean, white robes. The scene gives visible form to the gracious exchange at the heart of our salvation: He takes our sin, and through faith we receive His righteousness.
The hymn’s question above the scene marvels that the Lord who created all things became weak and small. Beneath it, the words of 2 Corinthians 8:9 explain His generosity: though He was rich, for our sakes He became poor. His coming among us leads to the cross, where He bears what we could never overcome ourselves.
I wanted this design to picture the relief of coming to Christ with nothing to offer but our need. We do not have to mend our rags into something worthy before approaching Him. Our standing before God rests in the Savior who gave Himself for us and clothes us in a righteousness we could never manufacture. The gift is His. The gratitude is ours.
