Redeemer, Come! Hoodie
“Redeemer, come! I open wide my heart to Thee; here, Lord, abide!”
Redeemer Come brings those words from Georg Weissel’s hymn, translated by Catherine Winkworth, into a church scene with Christ at the center. Worshipers gather at the altar rail as He stands among them breaking the bread that is His body, with an open Bible, the chalice, and the cross pointing to the gifts He brings His people.
The back carries Paul’s prayer from Ephesians 3:16–17: that God would strengthen us through His Spirit, so that Christ may dwell in our hearts through faith. The hymn’s prayer and the Biblical passage belong together—our Redeemer comes to us, sustains our faith, and makes His home with us.
I wanted to picture the comfort we sometimes lose sight of in familiar worship: Christ Himself serving His people. We come with empty hands, burdens, and sins that need forgiving. He gives us reason to kneel in gratitude and rise in hope.
