Want of Wonder pairs G. K. Chesterton’s observation, “The world will never starve for want of wonders; but only for want of wonder,” with a sunlit sandstone arch overlooking a winding river, distant mountains, and a sky alive with color. The back brings that vast landscape down to the scale of a hummingbird feeding at a flower, alongside Psalm 111:2: “Great are the works of the LORD; they are pondered by all who delight in them.” From the sweep of a canyon to the detail of a feather, creation gives us plenty to consider.
I wanted this design to encourage a little attention and a lot of gratitude. Familiarity can make us overlook things that ought to stop us in our tracks. God’s handiwork has not become less wonderful because we have grown accustomed to it. Look closely, ponder what you see, and give thanks to the One who made it. Consider, too, that all this beauty surrounds us in a corrupted, fallen, and dying world. Then imagine the inconceivable majesty of the incorruptible world to come!
