Pray for the City Hoodie

Pray for the City brings the words of Georg Weissel’s hymn, translated by Catherine Winkworth, into a familiar small-town scene: “O blest the land, the city blest, where Christ the Ruler is confessed!” Neighbors go about their day while a small group gathers around an open Bible in prayer.
The storefronts and familiar faces give the scene its setting, but Christ gives the hymn its confidence. A community’s deepest need reaches beyond prosperity, good government, or getting along with the folks next door. We need the mercy of God and the truth of His Word.
I wanted this scene to bring that prayer close to home—to the streets we drive, the people we work beside, and the neighbors whose burdens we may never see. Pray for your city, serve your neighbor, and confess the Savior who gives us reason to hope.
